Inherited the morning show slot on the radio upon the departure of Chuck Hawsey in 1976. Lou had one of the most popular radio shows at SCN. He'd ask the audience to send in their favorite recipes to share with the audience and the SCN front office would be filled with great dishes. His mysterious "Mary Ann" had the listeners so intrigued that people who had received their clearing orders would drop by the station to ask who was Mary Ann.

After retirement, he went to work for the IRS as an Audio Visual expert. Was seen doing a training film for the IRS several years ago; He was the moderator in a panel discussion.

Duties:  

Was with the 74th Quartermaster detachment in the Panama Canal Zone where he was later transferred to SCN in December 1964 as the chief Spanish News Announcer.

In addition to announcing the Spanish news on radio & TV, Mortimer also wrote and edited his own newscasts.

Mortimer returned to SCN for a second tour as NCOIC Broadcast Ops and acting 1st Sgt

From Gurabo, Puerto Rico.  Attended the University of Puerto Rico where he also played the Saxophone in the ROTC band.

Joined the US Army in December 1962 where he attended basic training at Ft Jackson, SC and then attended Quartermaster school in Ft Lee, VA.

He was transferred to Stuttgart, Germany with the 35th Quartermaster battalion where he served from 1963 to 1964. 

Mortimer planned to continue his education in Civil Engineering when he completed his tour of duty in the Army.

Best known for his TV on-air work as the host of Fright Night (taped in bunches -- and the sequences frequently got mixed up!!). A Saturday night horror/monster/SciFi flick. 

Woody had a great dry sense of humor and would often work in-house jokes into his routine (like "Bob's Bizerko Lounge" or other subtle references to SCN'ers, who were usually walking past the set while Woody was taping).
